I’m still here……

My mother always said when it rains, it pours.  So true.

We’ve been to Nebraska and back to bring my brother’s cremated ashes to Duluth for a memorial service here.  We’ve got family coming in from out-of-state this weekend for that.  My mother-in-law had a gallbladder attack for three days.  My mother was having a harder time than usual breathing even with her oxygen because of the humid weather. My sister-in-law got re-married.  Our St. Bernard got her toenail cut half off and bled like a stuck pig all over my kitchen floor.

Our busy schedule sounds overwhelming when we look at it like that, but we only have to take one day at a time.  Lamentations chapter 3, verse 23 reads: “God’s mercies are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”

Praise His Name!!  🙂

Jesus said that we are in the world, but not of the world.  Never have I felt that more keenly than I did at the wedding we attended yesterday in Wisconsin.

It felt as if a distinct line had been drawn in the sand between us and the very intoxicated crowd swirling around us. I think I was shell-shocked.  I’m not used to that kind of lifestyle and we certainly didn’t raise our daughter to be like that.

So we left immediately after the reception, driving home in silence and lost in our own thoughts.  I could literally hear my heart breaking yet once again….

I was reminded of a song that goes:

“I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.  Though none go with me, still I will follow, no turning back, no turning back.”

And there it was, in a nutshell.  I will follow Jesus even if I stand alone, family or no family.

Though I love my family, I still choose Jesus first.

Yesterday we had the fun of driving through the countryside of Wisconsin on our way to a wedding rehearsal.  Rolling hills, green trees, blue sky.  It was a beautiful day.

As we got near our destination, we saw more farms spread out on the hillsides, along with cattle and horses.  I love farms, actually. (One of my uncles once owned a cow farm.) We even had a deer cross right in front of our car.

I was reminded of the Bible scripture in Psalm, chapter 50, verses 10-11: “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains, and the wild beasts of the field are mine.”

That’s another way of saying that everything belongs to God.

That gives me great comfort. 🙂

One thing I love about reading God’s Word, the Bible, is that there is much to ponder.  It’s never boring if you’re really thinking about what God’s trying to say.

In Lamentations chapter 3 in the Old Testament, it talks about God’s mercies. “They are new every morning.  Great is Your faithfulness.”

I love that!
